Default PT 6.7/6.9 Logic 7..Hardware issues

Hi There everyone!
I was trying to sort out a friend's system yesterday he is running PT HD2 On a G5 with a couple of 96s i/os.
Running PT 6.7 or 6.9, os 10.3.7, 2Gb ram etc..Anyway the issue is I can not use Logic with the 96s as when i launch coreaudio it says that the hardware is already in use, i have triple checked it, notthing is running! I have done this before and I actually use it occasionally on my HD system just fine. This might help, My friend's Logic is an accademic version. As far as iknow it is exactely the same as the full version..
Any guess? Has anyone been here before?
Thanks for every suggestion.
All the best
Mo.

Is there any kind of error number in the message?

You could try trashing preferences files (see the General Troubleshooting thread).

If that doesn't do it, look in the folder located at MacHD>Library>Audio>Plug-ins>HAL and remove everything except the Digidesign Core Audio plugin, restart and try again.

If that doesn't fix it, then trash the Digidesign Core Audio plug-in and reinstall.

One other thing to check is that he's got Core Audio driver 6.5.2 or higher installed. Any version prior to that is single client only.

Try launching Digi CoreAudio Manager first. Let it connect. Then launch Logic.
