Default Protools on PC. Problems.

Hey guys,

I'm going to school to become an audio enginner. I have been using protools on Mac at school. Unfortunately I own a PC, but that did not stop me from buying an Mbox 2 Mini. I loaded Protools 8 LE on to my PC and immediately noticed some changes compared to the Mac version. I noticed that those nice little plugin slots by the tracks are gone. Also noticed the volume fader by the track was gone. I can't do pre roll in bars. Also I can't record on to multiple tracks. I have to record on one track and then I have to move the region I just recorded on to another track in order to record again.

Is this normal on a PC or do I just have to make some minor adjustments?

Thanks in advance,

Love,

Dan.

Welcome to the world of recording, from this day on you will never be the same! LOL! You have so much to learn and it’s going to be confusing at first. Don’t stop going to school and learn how to spell engineer if this is what you wish to be! Pro Tools is a very complex program for a beginner and can be customized to please your preferences. There really isn’t any difference between the PC/Mac versions, you just need to get familiar with what it is capable of doing. For instance, 1. you can select the columns you wish to view next to your tracks. 2. If you select medium or large track height you should see your volume fader. 3. Try turning on the little conductor in your transport window, and 4. make sure your input busses (above your faders) are correlating to the input of your mic or line.
Good luck,
you're in good hands!

Hi Dan,

I think rq covered you on the basics, so I'll just say... Welcome to the mire.

And, at last... The promise of a stable career.

I hope it works out for you. Are you around the LA area by any chance? I graduated from a school just a couple years ago in Burbank and am already overbooked with work now so let me just assure you that there is work out there, you just have to work hard for it!
