Default Tools for sounddesigners thread

Hello all

Can you give me some tips for software (plugins, audiosuite, Standalone)
that will do really cool sample manipulations?
Free or Cost-Software.

I am always searching for never heard sounds.
Everything is allowed!!!!

GRM Tools make a variety of wacky sound design type plugins -- too crazy for me to have (I am prohibited under the terms of my parole to use these), but you might want to check them out.

Free:

Sound Hack- a really cool standalone app for osx that allows you to do cool sample manipulations. The convolution feature is very cool and allows you to take the amplitude of one file and apply it to the frequency spectrum for another.

CSound or Mac CSound - Mac CSound is a bit buggy, but still works. If you are into programming C and sound, this is a really cool program.

Not Free: Max MSP - A visual programming language for MIDI and audio. It is similar to Reaktor in that you connect various modules and maths to build whatever you want, except that you can build from a much more detailed level. You can even create your own applets that will open in osx with it... Very powerful, very cool, hard to wrap your head around unless you are into programming already and willing to spend time with it. http://www.cycling74.com

If you are working with Beats Sychronic is good and has some neat loop-based Sample Manipulation tools. Samples in Sychronic don't have to be drum sounds so it can be used for other sounds like bass. Also iDrum by izotope is a good Drum Programming tool for PT. It interfaces well and allows for individual samples to be sent to individual tracks in PT.

cycling 74 also makes a bunch of cool (paid but cheap) plug ins that have some very cool sound design capabilities. The product is called Pluggo and comes with over 100 different plug ins. Sound Toys also has some nice sound design oriented tools.

Thats a lot stuff but the best is: they seem to be all different!

I tried soundhack. It makes crazy ambiences. Unfortnatly there are no controls in what you are doing.

I tried Pluggo freeware. Nice. Spectralfilter ans Reso is helpfull.
Maybe i will try the other stuff

Metasynth looks like you have to learn much to get sounds out of it.
I will try the demo the next time.
