Ok. Thanks for the infos.
Is there a link with my other prob? Sometimes when I hit stop in PT, MIDI clock (and other messages...) continues to be sent for about 30s... It even sends Program changes and weird MIDI note on. I'm using a MOTU interface (midi express 128) with Native Silicon drivers. Strange enough, AVID have updated MIDI windows and workflows in PT 23.6.

Seems to be time for a ticket as you said!

Yes, please! The more tickets we have, the more we can have the dev team aware of the issue. Thanks!

The supremely efficient solution to my problems with MIDI sync and Pro Tools have been solved by using this great software plugin suite from Expert Sleepers:

https://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/silentway.html

It generates DC signals of all kinds, e.g. LFOs, Gates, Triggers and....Clocks, with extreme accuracy. These are sent out via various channels on my (DC-coupled) audio interface and drive my modular synth system, which runs on analogue clock.

I also feed the analogue clock into this module:

https://ladik.ladik.eu/?page_id=861

which in turn generates MIDI clock, which is also very stable.

Of course, all of the above is only of any use to those of us who use modular synth systems, but I for one am grateful.

(by the way, the Ladik page lists the M-330 as Out Of Stock, but if you email them, they might have one on a shelf somewhere...)

Tried all suggested ways to make MIDI BEAT CLOCK work.

I also contacted support who were quick and polite and professional but all to no avail.
if someone has any other suggestions other than 3rd party software/hardware?

I have NORD,MOOG,ELECTRON etc all of which work flawlessly in Logic,Ableton and Bitwig.

Loving everything else about this version of PT having been an early adopter in the 90s when the only gig in town was PT HD 48 bit double precision.

It could be me being a bit thick but I do not think so!!!

Happy to try to help. Mine is working with different external devices though both USB and 5-pin. What’s your issue?

Thanks for the reply.

Sometimes it starts to work for a short period but whenever I try to sync any external gear ie Nord arp it just doesn't sync properly and then it goes a bit crazy.

At times it throws out spurious patch changes all over the presets and even when I stop PT it carries on until I close PT.

My set up couldn't be simpler. M2 to MT4 to externals.
I tried it once with my Analog 4 mk2 and I had to do a full reset???

Moog freezes, but all work fine with any other software.

MIDI interface? USB or 5-pin? Or you enabling beat clock from the dialog on just the necessary ports being used?

Emagic MT4 5pin
Have tried usb directly.
Enabling from both dialog and necessary ports,
Every software configuration tried no success.
As I said this set up works on all other daws usb or 5pin by default.

thanks M

just heard from someone from avid on the forum here that the team is working on a fix for pro tools bug PT-263943 , which messes up all thing midi-beat clock dependent as soon as sample delay in a pro tools session adds up, because midi-beat clock isn't delay compensated properly. So good news, since pro tools is suffering from this bug for as long as I can remember.

That is great news indeed! At NAAM I was told that there wasn't a way for PT to compensate for external instruments that exist outside of the software, so I'm happy to hear contrary and that it's finally being addressed! Not sure if other DAWs can do this yet to be honest.
