Using Mbox 2 Mini as live recording interface?
I use an Mbox 2 to record to my iMac G5 with Pro Tools LE 7.3. I also have a Macbook Pro with Pro Tools LE 8.0.5 but I prefer using the iMac to record.
However, I would like to use the Macbook Pro and Pro Tools to get live keyboard sounds for my recordings. I have done this in a different context at a friend's recording studio: hooking up my Mbox 2 to the Macbook, opening up Pro Tools, inserting an instrument plug-in and outputting to an amplifier from the Monitor out of the Mbox 2 (running the output through a Roland Re-201 Space Echo tape delay to get a nice vintage sound).
I'd like to do it at home but obviously the Mbox 2 can't serve as both my interface with the iMac and the Macbook Pro. I was looking into an Mbox 2 Mini to use for the interface with the laptop. Is there any reason why my Pro Tools LE 8.0.5 on the laptop would not work with an Mbox 2 Mini, including a used one? There might certainly be times when I might want to record in Pro Tools on the laptop with the larger Mbox 2 so my question really is: Can I use either one depending on a given situation?
