Default Digi 002 rack on Powerbook G4 a good idea??

Hi- it looks like the hard drive on my powermac g4 has bit the dust- If it costs me 1000 bucks for a new drive I can't afford it. I have a powerbook G4 I got recently, which has logic express and garageband. I got this from my school and the music production students run their Mboxes of their laptops, but i have a digi002 rack that i have been using w/ my tower mac. I would like to know if anyone has used a rack with their laptop. I use my pro tools for home recording, nothing heavy duty and when i record, i use it for several hours. Will my laptop be able to handle this oe is it too risky or am i being paranoid?

First off, it shouldn't cost anything more than $150 to replace a HD in a G4. Second, I use my Digi002R with my PowerBook G4 and it works great.

Hey man,

Sounds like you go to Berklee. I too attend school there as a Music Production and Engineering major for 3 years now. I sold my mBox and got a Digi002 console with some outboard preamps running on my Titanium Powerbook G4 (1GHz, 1GB RAM). The laptops they're giving out are definitely more powerful than mine, but I haven't had a single problem with my rig and I've been using it for over a year now.

But like the other response has said, it shouldn't cost a lot to replace your hard drive. However, until then, you can use your Powerbook and it'll work just fine.

The 002 will probably work better than the Mbox in terms of latency and those annoying buffer underun-type errors.

I had to swap in my PB earlier this year when my G4 tower bought the farm and it worked flawlessly.

Yeah I run a 12' Powerbook with an 002R And it works fine. I wouldn't recomend using its internal hardrive for anything major though, as its a bit on the slow side. New HD's shouldnt cost more that £150 for a decent size.

Hope everything works out.
