Default Glitch problems with PT10.3

Hi,

Still having real glitchy problems with PT 10.3

Basically, I have a strong feeling its all centred around Services running in the background.

Each time I try and load an fx, rtas, aax or switch tracks, it sounds like the buffer is locking and these stuttering sounds are occurring.

I have switched off and followed all optimisation checks per the readme, but the problem persists.

I know I have no issues when running other audio software such as Ableton Live8.

I know I have more than enough ram and the processor is very capable.

Any wise heads willing to assist?

Cheers

Michael

You might try running msconfig to disable all startup programs, except for the Avid ones of course, and see if the problem persists. If not, you could enable the startup programs one by one and see what's causing the conflict.

FireWire/1394 Controller 1 : VIA VT6306 VIA Fire II IEEE-1394 OHCI Link Layer Controller

How confident are you that this FW controller is compatible? TI chipsets are preferred

Hi,

Thanks for helping...

I have turned off all start up progs, did that as part of the optimisation. But, will recheck to ensure.

Firewire - I only use this to capture video, running it with Adobe etc...
How would this peripheral impact with PT? Interested to know your logic etc...

However, when I was running PT 8 ( I upgraded straight to 10 ) had no glitches at all, it was on the same machine. But, my instincts are still pointing to Win7 upgrades, Macafee Antivirus and some essential background services.

BTW I am running win7 under XP ( no themes etc..)

Regards

Did you try turning off Adv. C-States, Turboboost etc. in BIOS/ UEFI ?

If you are not using the FW connection with Pro Tools, then it likely isn't an issue. I would disable MacAfee and see if it helps(especially if you did not have that when you were running LE8).

Hi,

Just a word of thanks so far to the guys who are trying to help, really appreciate it!

Well, first of all this is what I have done:

1. Tried turning off hyperthreading - was distrastrous! Put it back on.
2. Turned off turbo boost and C settings.
Improved, but still twitching and CPU was up and down like a whore's knickers.
3. Turned off a few additional services and got the active processes down to about 45. Improved a bit more.
4. Now have it running on only 6 processors - dramatically improved.
Turned alot of tracks to inactive, improved it again.

Now, my only concern is workability.
With the spec I have, this should take alot of processing, so I really cannot understand it.

Tried removing and reloading ilok, and this is causing a problem.
Ilok helper will not work, keeps crashing when trying to interface even if I run with Active X filter turned off via IE 32bit.

Will ilok cause all this twitching and glitching?

Michael

The iLok should not be the issue, but have you disabled MacAfee yet?

The DPC latency checked here will give some info on system responsiveness.

I don't know if there are any issues with running XEON processors.

I'm not a fan of MacAfee, it's the only anit-virus I've had trouble with removing over the last few years.
Also, the former owner appears to be completly insane

Hi,

Xeon's are the preferred processor re; Avid.

Is there a virus protection that you would recommend with Protools?
