Are folders handy?
How are you all finding folders, and how are you using them? Are they making your life easier?

Re: Are folders handy?
Yup, even for pure organization it makes navigating around a session so much easier.

Re: Are folders handy?
For me "Routing Folders are great and have become my "Go To" organizational and optimizing screen real estate tool (since going to routing folders I no longer use Sub Bus Aux tracks or VCA's )
For example here is a session template of mine (with 20 tracks total ) the tracks with the Black channel face are the routing folder tracks Here you see it with the Acoustic Rhythm Guitar Folder open ( I record with two mics a Left and Right each on their own mono track And the Vocal tracks are open also The Acoustic Lead , Electric Lead and the Virtual Instrument tracks are all collapsed into the Folders

Re: Are folders handy?
I can see how they'd be useful for music, but does anyone use them in post?
I haven't had time to massively re-jig my template to see if they would be better/quicker, than what I have already.

Re: Are folders handy?
I know a few people who love folders for post. I haven't found a practical use for them yet BESIDES organizing all of the different versions of AAF imports for conforms and/or referencing. Sets of clip group tracks for notes are helpful with folders as well. For whatever reason, when I create or convert tracks to routed folders with my template, I get an error that says all of my busses are in use/maxed out.

Re: Are folders handy?
All I can see really is a cosmetic benefit of a tidier session?
Personally I have all my tracks and Aux's visible all the time and scroll to the relevant point in the session with shortcuts. I can't see why I would want to be opening and closing things. Maybe I'm not understanding the benefits, happy to be converted. For example I had a situation today with a mix where I heard a click in the run through and needed to locate the track/clip it was coming from. Fairly easy to do by scrolling up and down and seeing what is active at that point. How would you do that if everything was closed down into folders?

Re: Are folders handy?
My 2 cents; if your sessions are rarely larger than 60-70 tracks, I can take them or leave them. They are handy for keeping things tidy, but despite trying them out on several projects, I just can't get as excited as others But that's the beauty of having options; you can choose to use them, and I can choose to not use them Now if we could get "track folders" in the Clips bin.....
