it's not you.
Many of us get seriously frustrated with how something gets fixed with each Pro Tools release, but something else that's never been a problem gets broken. It's especially frustrating when so much of it seems so obvious to an experienced user - and we wonder how it gets missed by Avid. Perpetual License holders are essentially paying an annual "update support" fee of $400 to be beta-testers for half-broken updates.
I'm generally happy with the overall stability and multiple fixes in 2023.6, but there are so many insane things that got broken, and nobody spotted them until it's a public release - and we all know that we won't even see the possibility of a fix until at least another three months. Now we've got to live with these ridiculous bugs or backtrack to an older version that had its own set of problems. Catch 22.
There used to be a thing called Pro Tools CS Updates, where small annoying workflow bugs would get fixed fast, and we'd get a build that we could truly use until the next major revision.
These new Track Markers I'd rather completely throw in the trash, and revert to the old way - than deal with the problems they've caused in "Memory Locations" by including them in latest Pro Tools code.

Every other DAW or plugin that I've paid for has basically provided a "patch" release available to all users. Even providing bug fixes for previous versions to some extent.
In other words, a free patch release separate from the new features.

I had to make a decision whether or not to renew based on the past few years of AVID trickling out new features as opposed to a longer awaited more solid release.
There are a lot of features I'm very glad to have but the new feature:bug ratio has been just too high for me to keep renewing.
I've since settled on 2022.7 which I'm quite happy with (albeit my Catch 22 version of choice).

As regards Track Markers, the makeshift method I've been using in previous versions is to split the clip section and color code it with a different clip color (usually the highlight colors).
Then I'll rename the clip with the song section & concise production notes.
The highlighted clips are clearly visible and the pro-notes can be readily identified in the clips list which is set to follow the selection.

I realize that may not be as viable for extensive editing in the Post-Pro world.

Good comments... I'm working on PT Ultimate 2021.6, HDX on a 12 core 2.93ghz cheesegrater and have a pretty stable system. (High Sierra) It works and rarely crashes. It does a lot. But I'm EOL on this Mac, and am terrified to upgrade when it comes time I have to. I really wish I could have ARA Melodyne but from what I've heard its a nightmare so I'm glad with what I've got that's working. As for Avid, I cut them some slack because of the war in Ukraine. It can't be easy. But still, they need better beta testing...

First ARM version was 2022.12 (beta) so hopefully your old cheesegrater keeps going until next year and you can make a better decision then.

In my book PT should be "ready" by then, and also whatever plugin is not working ARM native on January 2024 you should consider it abandonware.

Ray, in the meantime - if you're into experimentation - you might want to look into OpenCore for taking your older mac into the next world. Here is the tutorial for getting rolling. Once you make a start, it's not as daunting as it might look initially. Get yourself a Samsung SSD boot drive and mess around.

I have personally moved on to a Mac Studio machine for all my serious work, which is mindblowingly powerful, but the old Mac Pro still has many capabilities which you might never imagine possible. I've even got thunderbolt running on my old Mac Pro 4,1 (upgraded to 5,1) and running Catalina. Many people have got Big Sur, Monterey and even Ventura running on these machines.
Even though I now mainly use my Mac Studio, I can run the latest Pro Tools on my old Mac Pro.

That aside, I get the vibe that Avid are making strides into improving things. We're now seeing interactions here on the DUC that were missing for a decade. Props for trying.

Agree- new features always seem to bring breaking old dependable things. Plus, there is a new "window" that opens with ProTools now that seems like a webpage, but nothing fills the window - wtf? Please make it stop

yup I've been getting this odd white window opening and spinning wheels and crashing. Going to roll back at the weekend - what a pain.

I believe this is Cloud Client Services bringing up the blank dialog box. Another Avid innovation that doesn't work and also breaks things.
The fix seems to be to install it again from Avid Link, which also is nasty, and I don't have it installed. So I would have to install Avid Link, re-install Cloud Client Services and then de-install Avid Link again.
