Default will PT 4 powermix run on my powerbook 1400?

I guess this is probably a waste of time, but.....
I tried running PT 4 on my 1400-it loads fine, but playback will not work with more than one track- I get the "hard drive to slow or fragmented" message.
I guess I could use a ext. Jaz drive - but yeeesh...i hate those things.

So is there anything I can do (besides buying a G3!)

How about PT 3?

thanks for the help.

I once had a 1400 and Powermix v3 (the free version) worked. I guess maybe you can put a g3 accelerator chip in the 1400 and PT4.3.1 might work. Or get a Pismo/400 or 500. I have PT4.3.1 working on mine.

I had a 1400 for awhile and PowerMix was a no go. Digital Performer barely played a track. Vision worked best for multi-tracking, and it's around $50 these days from www.opcode.com
A guy in my band uses Deck on on a really old Powerbook, so you might want to give that a shot on the 1400.

I looked into getting the Newertech 1400 g3 upgrade, but my research lead me to believe that the problem with using the 1400 for audio was a slow bus, not a slow processor. So I'd get a money back guarantee on a G3 upgrade if you're only getting it for audio purposes. Might not help much since it won't effect the bus speed.

(I sold the 1400 to another band member that just uses it in the music sense for midi notation)
