It would be so simple and fair to set the price at $599 in the Avid shop and let everyone buy online at the same price.
Hi,

New policy "Lets make it as hard as possible for everyone to buy PT10"

Oh, there's a back door to getting it cheaper for HD owners, which requires more work by Avid staff and costs less! But lets make it elusive and even more difficult to purchase!

Avid!! wake up and just do an intro price for registered HD owners @$599 buy it now in store and be done with it.

Honestly, all this faffing about i'm rapidly losing interest, and i'm sure others are as well.

Default Re: Support Plan for Europe ?

all US resellers refuse to sell it to non US customers, WHY ?
Sweetwater sells normally also to other countries, but not the SSP why ?
And why I get a link on Avids Support site for the Standard Support Plan - buy now -
leading to other support products, but not to the SSP for PT HD 9 Users ?

It’s really strange.... gives you the impression that Avid don’t want to sell this
service to us, to make it very complicated to find, because it’s a bit cheaper to get
our PT HD 10 upgrade.

I want to mention that I really love Pro Tools HD and HD 10 is great !!!
So I can’t imagine to change my DAW !! PT is the only one !!

Thank you all for your input !!

All this coupled with the fact that the PT10 Demo is not available until mid December. Just at a time when people are organizing there Christmas leave. Then 2 weeks later the offer ends.
I think an enema is required somewhere..metaphorically or course

Right. Only comparing prices without VAT makes any sense.

There should be something hidden.
OK I'll tell you what, because I went to my dealer and purchased the new sustem HD Native + HD I/O + PT HD10 Bundle.
The lowest price on eBay found in US is $6995
Well you can make an offer. Let's say 10% off and they will accept it. It will be then $6295.

Now. In Israel I bought this exact bundle and I paid $5600!
Take in account that in average everything (especially pro audio) is more expensive here than in US.

And I believe that at this price or even lower you can buy it in US, EU and UK.

What Avid wants:
1. Marking the gap again between pros and consumers. It makes it an upper league to become an HD user. Not like it was lately in pre PT10 era, and almost everyone could allow to have an HD Accel rig.
Now again like it was when HD was out, only pros went and bought it.
I am not a snob....even though I am professional. It makes it easy to justify a client paying higher rates for you as an HD owner and your studio time, rather to someone having PT10 in his bedroom.

2. They do want you do be an advanced and satisfied user. So if you have a whole new HD10 Rig you sound awesome. And I admit it is true. It's a very different beast from my HD3 Accel (I still own in my room B).
The new HD I/O smokes Apogee. Any of them. Period.
Listen to it and you'll conclude it after 3 seconds.

3. They want you to think that they changed the policy and all future upgrades now will cost you 1000 bucks.
But I guess that PT HD11 will be as usual only $250 for all HD10 users.
So again. Read - go and buy the whole new system and get HD10 free.

4. I think Avid is very clever and their new policy is indeed very thin psychology move.
They overlooked however the support plan and this is a PITA for them.

5. They do not want you to buy or upgrade to PT 10 because you will be stuck anyways after PT HD11 release because of older (blue) interfaces limitations.

I was very angry when I had to purchase a new rig. I felt like I am forced to buy something very similar but different color...

However I understand now that it was an upgrade.
You can believe me or not but please go "test drive" it for yourself.

Are you sure?

When I've been involved in buying stuff from the Avid store in America (or was it the Digidesign store???) all the prices shown - in this case $599 - did not include sales tax.

When you go to the checkout you are asked to fill out the delivery details, and depending upon the state, and in some cases city, you will be paying different rates of tax.

For example, Portland has no sales tax (I think that's true of the entire state of Oregon), Texas has a state tax and additional local taxes that differ from city to city, as does the state of Florida where they differ from county to county, which is different from Los Angeles or New York etc, etc.

This is what I receive from my EU dealer.

He did not know this until yesterday, Avid is going slow for EU costumers.

There appears to be some confusion regarding the new support contract promotion so please find full details below:

Overview

Avid Support Services is pleased to offer Pro Tools HD 9 users a one-time option to purchase a Standard Support plan for their Avid system at €451— with no reinstatement fees typically required for customers not currently on support. This represents a huge saving over the normal upgrade price and protects your customer’s investment with one year of customer support and upgrades. This offer will entitle customers to an upgrade from Pro Tools HD 9 to 10 at no additional charge, and is valid until 31st December 2011.

Feature Benefits for Avid Support

• Access to phone support (5 Days/9 Hours)

• Next-business-day response times

• Unlimited number of service requests
