Help bring Pro Tools back to life after migration assistant!!!
Hi everyone
I decided to upgrade from a stable 10.6.8 and PT 8 system to the latest 10.8.2 ML and PT 10.3HD , I did this because 10.3 HD features and mainly because Artist Control improvements, besides that I was unable to use my iCloud account under 10.6.8, ML was recently approved by Avid so why not... Since all the feedback was strongly positive around here I decided to back up my hard drive doing a image of all system and then do a fresh install of ML. Like I told before my HD 1 used be rock solid under SL but after upgrade to ML it became very unstable. Did the ML installation normally but then I've used migration assistant to get all my settings and stuff back again from my image back up. Everything seems to be ok until I launch PT for the first time to start working again, I've noticed on the first minutes that PT wasn't same I had before, after did some search here and other forums, I figured out that migration assistant mess up completely with user permissions, which strongly affect PT behavior. I don't wanna get in detail of all my attempts to fix this issue, but I've spent days trying to get PT back to the normal behavior without completely reinstall ML. The symptoms that I've been noticed is since I work mainly in post, picture stuttering is a nightmare that i can only fix with I restart this is the more common, can't open some sessions because I don't have permission, when I can open sessions I can't save them, can't move folders inside the same hard drive (only allow me to copy) PT occasionally crash during the start up, another annoying problem is when a external hard drive is (normally from clients) PT seems to behave very slow, quit is not enough, restart is the solution. Another problem is while trying to import any omf file I have a strange error in task manager I can easily replicate this by choosing " copy from source" . The only way to get trough this is the "consolidate" option. With all of this I'm getting about 10 restarts on normal 8 hours working day, this is driving me crazy I don't even remember what was the last time PT crashed on me under 10.6.8! I work mostly with features films and I can't spend my day restarting the computer to have PT back to normal again. I already have enabled root user, repaired permission under recovery mode, reinstalled PT again and the last 10.8.2 combo update. Deleted prefs, cleaning caches. I bought disk warrior and cocktail, run it both but all problems persist. I'm trying to avoid OS installation for the reasons I've mention before, I'm looking for some tips that could help me to bring my system back to life again without spending painful weeks reinstalling software and request new authorizations. I'am PT user since vers 5 and never listen before about migration assist causing this type of issues, my bad I know, but i'm pretty sure this is a permissions related issue and probably fixable with few specific steps, everything was working properly before the upgrade, the only suspicious move here was definitely migration assistant. Please, anyone with any precious information related to this specific problem that could help me and other users please share it here. My specs: Mac quad core Xeon 2.26 (mid 2010) 8g ram (3 internal hard drives) HD 1 and blue face 192 I/o Artist control v2 Pro tools HD 10.3 Video playback running on Pro tools using mini display port to hdmi Thanks Hugo |

Re: Help bring Pro Tools back to life after migration assistant!!!
SOmething that fixed all our problems in HDX:
1) Make sure "Wake for Ethernet Access" in Energy Saver Prefs are OFF 2) Start up in safe mode - (hold down shift while starting up) let Mac do its thing and restart as normal.

Re: Help bring Pro Tools back to life after migration assistant!!!
There's a hidden feature in OSX:
ShutDown Mac Start Mac Before the Mac-Tone comes up, press cmnd/R In the following screen choose the terminal.app and type resetpassword and press Enter/Return Then press reset Disk Permissions I only found a German link. It helped a friend who ran into same problems. http://www.macwelt.de/tipps/OS-X-Lio...n-3925534.html I hope this helps.

Re: Help bring Pro Tools back to life after migration assistant!!!
Repair permissions will not fix permissions of third party software
It is typically only for osx, will not fix non osx extensions After migration assistant it not uncommon to need to reinstall pro tools, ilok extensions etc... Uninstall and reinstall
