Need help badly

ok my macbook been acting strange lately had some files deleted and I don't know how my system preferences app disappeared and icons and files as well. I tried a update and went to 10.5.5 and want to go back to 10.5.3. I am about to back up my drive and reinstall os x. which I was told it will take me back to 10.5.1. My question is, if possible how do I get to 10.5.3 thru updates so it doesnt take me to current 10.5.5?

I might suggest SuperDuper! for backup, works like a charm for me. Always use the Combo Updater to update your OS, never go into Software Update to do it. All you have to do is Google "10.5.3 Combo Updater" and you will find the link that Phil put in. Also you might as well go up to 10.5.4 since 7.4.2 is qualified for 10.5.4.
