It isn't but needs to be!!!!

First crash no doubt many today just 25 minutes in. Buzzkill.

The instability inherent in 12.4. I'm wondering if it coincides with the that infamous shift in software development from a certain country to another. The new team are yet to get up to speed perhaps? I believe that's a touchy subject so I hope I haven't overstepped the mark here!

It is odd though how PT can go from super stable to a complete nightmare within a few releases.

EDIT 1: Crash 2. Simply hiding and making inactive two tracks. Restarted Mac/PT, did the same thing again. No crash.
EDIT 2: Crash 3. Deleting a Clip Group. Restarted Mac/PT, did the same thing again. No crash.
EDIT 3: Crash 4. Re-routing a send to another bus. Restarted Mac/PT, did the same thing again. No crash.
EDIT 4: Crash 4. Hiding and making inactive a track. Restarted Mac/PT, did the same thing again. No crash.

I upgraded to 12.4 last week and it's running perfectly! Not a single crash. Serious. Just mixed two songs yesterday and it's rockin. Maybe you have bad plugin... My setup is big, with 64 i/o, SSL console, etc... I'm on Yosemite.

It may well be a bad plug-in. My point is... I had a LOT of VI's running extremely well in PT HD 11.3.1, a day into 12.4 and all hell breaks loose with the same plug in versions. (12.4 was the first version of 12 I've used.) Something changed under the hood for the worst IMO.

I'm really hoping 12.5 clears things up. I have over 200 licences on my iLok and tracking down a rogue plug-in is a nightmare. Which brings me back to my other point... Why is Pro Tools so vulnerable and can be bought to it's knees by a rouge plug-in? And what changed between 11.3.1 and 12.4? Super stable to multiple crashes daily.

I'm kind of stuck with 12.4 HD because it's tied to the functionality of the latest S6 version I think. Backtracking isn't really an option unless I do the same with the S6, I'm loathe to do that and shouldn't have to. The S6 is getting so good I don't want to lose any functionality there.

But 12.4 is killing me. SO many crashes and assertion errors!!! I REALLY hope Avid are working on this because 12.4 instability is clearly a widespread problem. I've never known a more unstable version. What's really frustrating is that it seems more or less anything can trigger a crash. Swapping a send to another bus, separating a region, doing nothing and it just dies, copying a clip... It's like something under the hood is fundamentally broken.

What's even more frustrating is that 11.3.1 was the most stable version of PT I've ever used. It hardly ever crashed. What went wrong? At the time I switched from 11 to 12 all the third party plug-ins were the same version and most still are. If it is a plug-in that's now causing the problem it's Avid's fault IMO! It's something it changed, not the PI manufacturer. And why is Pro Tools so vulnerable to one errant plug in anyway?

Roll on 12.5 at the end of the month. I'm jumping straight in in the hope that some stability is restored. It can't get any worse..... can it?

Exactly same thing here!

Its really painfully, every time Protools crash I have to use one of the backup sessions of the autosave and start again from there, so I am able to know how many times it crash on a project...

Well on yesterday's song it crashed 9 times! Shame on you Avid!

I noticed that when the project starts to get bigger with more tracks, the freeze and commit become SLOWER, its directly related to the amount of tracks.

I really hope Avid fix all these problems on 12.5, if not I have no choice but going back to my trusty DP.

PT12.4 has been a painfully experience.

Default How's 12.4 running for you?

Starting to get crashes and I mean crashes. Never had them before after upgrading. I have noticed that they occur more often when freezing tracks.

Well at least i know its not my computer. Even mac version seems bad from what you guys are saying.

I have been on 11.3.2 for a week or so now and it runs so solid. Not sure what they did to 12.4 but its a complete nightmare.

I sure hope 12.5 is better. I am about to give up on 12 all together.

For the most part, I've very few problems with 12.4 Every once is a great while something will glitch and PT will just shut down and reboot, but then everything continues on like nothing happened. I suspect it might be a plugin, but I haven't taken the time to trace that down yet.

But 99% of the time, it works just great. Love track freeze and commit and use them ALL the time.

Donald curious. Do you do a lot of elastic editing, clip gaining and splice editing?

Usually its the edits that throws up the access violations. For me anyways
