Default upgrade for recent 003 purchasers?

I just bought a brand new 003 Rack Factory at the end of August. WIll I get a free upgrade or will I be forced to spend more money?

Here's the software comparison, including track counts.

Short answer:
96 mono or stereo voices without the toolkit.

Avid, I really hope you guys aren't telling me that as a loyal customer who just spent money upgrading to a newer version of your hardware all of 3 months ago that I'm going to penalized for having done so 2 months early. It's not like I bought the thing a year ago.

The FAQ says this:

"Because Pro Tools 9 is a new Pro Tools product and not an upgrade version of Pro Tools LE, we will not be offering any free crossgrades to Pro Tools 9."

At the press conference they first said it would be free, then they recanted and said $99 for a recent purchase.

So it's not clear. Presumably the new Mbox will ship with 9 at some point, seems unfair to make me pay £210 for an upgrade.

Another moan, how come the UK upgrade price is $341 at current exrate compared to the US price of $249.

I have a HD system too, HD upgrade is worse, £294 (=$478) to upgrade my HD system compared to $349 in the US.?????? It's a download for crying out loud, it's not like you have to ship anything........ why can't you charge the same price, I wouldn't mind paying a 10% premium to cover exchange rate shifts, but that's closer to a 40% markup......

Come on now. $249? ESPECIALLY when PT9 basically means I could have chosen whatever i/o hardware I wanted? I've been a loyal customer for a few years now. I've not only talked the product up to anyone who asks, I've argued against the haters. I just upgraded from a 002, which I still have. I really don't think it's unreasonable to ask for an upgrade ESPECIALLY considering Avid certainly knew when I purchased this product not even 3 months ago that they were releasing PT9 and kept it a secret. Knowledge of which WOULD have delayed my purchase.

I have heard the $99 story as well, but the place I just bought the 003 rack from says no.
