here is a link - the basic version is all you would need. You can record ANY system / or 3rd party app audio from your computer directly into Pro Tools

http://source-elements.com/products/source-nexus
Seems like exactly what I want! I'll check it out.
Dang $125 is out of my pr atm. There has to be something like this but free.
Thanks

Can you use iTunes when PT is open? On my system PT locks down all the audio so that nothing else can use it. For your workflow, you may want to considering investing in a CD player with a digital output that you can feed directly into your interface inputs.

Rogue Amoeba also has a product for routing called Loopback (http://rogueamoeba.com/loopback/).

When you put a CD into your Mac a pop up appears asking if you want to burn the cd to your HD, if not then you can just listen to the songs in iTunes without them being in your HD.
Thats not true. When you insert a CD the files appear in iTunes and also in the Finder.

One way to do it is:
In Finder Preferences, go to Show these items in the sidebar, under Devices check CD, DVD etc.

They may show in Finder but you can't just drag them to a track - they're not regular audio files.

Really!? I've never had that problem.
Any Audio CD will have its files show up as AIFF audio files in the Finder since Mac OS 7 at least.

Okay - I'll admit that much. However if I try dragging these files into or importing into Adobe Audition it locks up Audition and I know AA can work with aif/aiff files. Why it does that I have no idea but it happens consistently. Therefore I rip and then drag to wherever I need the file.
