Default Video window size not retained in 2023.9

With 2023.6, about 50% of the time I'd open a session and the video window (which is shown on a 2nd monitor via HDMI) would resort back to "Half Size"" though I'd selected "Fullscreen." Save the session, close, reopen and the chances were good that it would again forget that I'd selected "Fullscreen."

With 2023.9 this occurs *every* time, always going back to 1/2 size. So the issue has gotten far worse.

FWIW I'm trying both DNxHD and MP4 files, at a frame rate of 23.976, Full Quality. I don't think it matters which format, size or frame rate I use, the video window will open at a setting which is NOT "Fullscreen."

I would like to second this complaint.
I should be able to third, fourth, and fifth this since multiple different studios working in Post are having this issue and being very annoyed by it!

It's not a great look with directors/producers to have to resize the windows every single time you have to open a session. And if you are going to suggest windows configurations, the Video window is the one that still has a problem with that (delayed response if it works at all.)

I do believe this is connected to macOS versions but I also believe this is a Pro Tools issue.

I don't get 1/2 size on session recall. I get whatever was the last size before I expanded it to full screen with the right-click option. But even stretching the window to fill the borders instead of "full screen" results then with recall being "original size" and not the stretched out size.

I think so too, as is evident by the fact that the issue got worse with a PT update where the OS did not change.

Interesting. I wonder if that's what's happening here, too. I'll have to test it. I only know that the session I was working on when posting this kept reverting back to half size.

The weird thing is for a second, the stretched (not right-click "full screen") video will fill the screen as I positioned it before saving. Then i get to watch it shrink (animated) to "original size." It's frustrating because it clearly has written somewhere what size it should be.

I'm not on Mac and haven't experienced the exact same issue but used to have a similar annoyance with the MIDI edit window constantly minimizing during a session.
It was fixed around 2022.6 then I remember it recurring in one particular session but not in others after an update.
I ended up importing the session data to a new session created in the newer PT version and it stopped.

Anyhow, I know you guys are experienced users of PT but maybe that might help.
No doubt it's a behavior that needs fixed just like the MIDI window always used to minimize after switching views or opening a session.

This is worth testing. So far I've been looking at sessions which were originally created with 2023.6. I'll try a new, from-scratch 2023.9 sesh w/ video.

Good idea. A new session is the quickest way to test.

As far as importing session data, I can't remember if I imported windows configs or not when it worked.
If it doesn't work importing the win configs maybe set up the windows from scratch after refreshing the session again (without the win configs). Then see if the session retains full screen from there.

From what I recall, I had to maximize the first time after opening the session and then things stayed consistent after that.
One or all of those steps stopped the constant minimization problem anyways.
I realize the problem is a bit different than my issue with the MIDI window but maybe it will work the same for the video window.

This bug has been present for years...it have not been fixed or exaggerated in 23.9 update. I work with a MacBook + apple studio display, whenever I open protools without the display, video size changes and protools looses track of size.....It usually goes away after multiple reboots/deleting video track, preferences and not changing the setup....very annoying....

Sorry, you are describing something different (that is intrinsically connected to the macOS AND the type of connections you use -- this is something we've tested a lot and how HDMI, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt, and DVI work depending on which macOS and computer model.)

The issue Eric and I are describing is with all displays on and attached and is simply just recall. And it hasn't been around for years.
The blame could be with both Apple and Avid but with 2023.6 (and an earlier version of Ventura), I have never had this issue on my multiple systems.
