Default CPU usage

Is the CPU usage meter hard drive, processor, or ram related? For instance if I keep adding plugins and the CPU usage goes up, am I taxing the processor itself? Or the hard drive? Or the RAM?

I know what CPU means. lol
I was just asking as to what specifically Pro Tools is metering.
Are there things you can do to help offset the CPU usage? Would adding more RAM and faster hard drives act as relief to the CPU usage?

Default Re: CPU usage

The meter is the use of the P4 2.4 Ghz processor in your computer.
I would ask: Have you tweaked your Windows OS completely, are you using a SATA/SCSI drive for the audio drive and have you thought about getting a larger CPU. There are tweaks within PT itself, have you used them? ... and there are about a gazillion other things I can think of, if I gave it the time. Windows can be a pain and uses resources you don't even think about (run/services.misc, for example).
I use a combination of tweaking guides ... but I would say go check out these guys sites, www.blackviper.com, lot's of useful info there, or www.musicxp.net ... I do believe, they have lots of good info there, too.
Hope that helps you some more with your problem.
