Question about "bundled 8 LE" to 9 crossgrade. Hardware serial related!

What's up fellas?! On eBay, I am selling the copy of PT8 that came with my 003R. Because I already purchased PT8 when I was on my Mbox 2, I never registered or even opened the 8 that came with the 003. So I put it up on eBay and I got an interesting question from a potential buyer.

What I want to know is, is the product key for this bundled PT 8 in any way linked to my 003 serial number at all? He claims that a tech from sweetwater told him he won't be able to crossgrade to 9 without my serial number, which sounds odd to me. I would think he can use his own hardware serial number. Anyone know for sure?

with is,...I would not be able to register the software and be eligable for the crossgrade to pro tools 9! ....So,...I would need the hardware serial # for a unregistered hardware unit,...is that available?
