Default MIDI Track Fader Used as a Virtual Control Surface?

Is it possible to use a MIDI track fader to control a given parameter inside a plugin? I basically want to use a MIDI fader as a virtual MIDI control surface as opposed to using an external MIDI controller / keyboard. Is this possible?
