Default Latency with a PCIe Magma

Is there any latency incurred by using the magma chassis????

PCIe formatted chassis.......

I assume that the 32bit chassis are in some way limited - Could anyone explain difference b/t the 32 and the 64bit chassis......Thanks

Thumbs up Re: Latency with a PCIe Magma

PCI based expansion chassis especially 32bit has latency as well as 64bit.
However, 32bit is a bit slow in performance in comparison to 64bit.

If you are planning on using an expansion chassis and a MacPro, it is highly recommended by most of Pro Tools users to use the Magma PE6R4-I unit.
Here's a video on what a PE6R4-I looks like and installation of Pro Tools cards.

You can find more information of Pro Tools and Magma expansion system on this forum, http://expansionsystem.com/forum

There are definitely latency when using 32bit as opposed to using 64bit.
If you are going to use an Expansion unit, you need to use the PE6R4-I.

I've been using a Magma Expressbox 4 for quite a while with no issues. I'm not saying there isn't latency, but it must be quite low because I can't detect it under normal use.

The previous model PE6R4 was also approved to use with Pro Toos HD-system. And that's what I do have now, and it's working very well. I wonder how in practise the new model It's supposed to better? I can see the host card is faster, would it allow greater track counts or what? I wonder if I should upgrade...

The PE6R4 has zero latency. I don't know about any of the other's but if you want the best performance get that one. It works perfectly here, as if there was no chassis in the system at all actually.
