yamaha P220 on ebay 3 hours to go

I had that exact set up, to be honest it was kinda thick sounding... I think it has a slow slew?

I was using a Yamaha P-2200 for my NS-10's and yes, they are a beast of an amp, but all brute force and no refinement. I think you are better off spending a bit more to get something clearer sounding, like some of those suggested above.

I've also had better luck with some of the higher end Crown amps on NS-10's. The DC-300 is an old favorite, and the Crown Studio Reference 2 is a monster, maybe overkill for NS-10's, but still an incredible amp.

Forget all the specs / wattage and the blah, blah, blah...

Every single time that I have walked into a major recording studio that I hadn't worked in before and listened to a CD to get a feel for the room before starting and the Yamahas sounded great... it was always the same amp.

Bryston 4B or 4B st

You cannot go wrong with this unit!!!

The other nice thing about Bryston (if you're buying used/eBay etc.) is the transferrable warranty -- something like 25 years. So if it shows up DOA, you're not totally screwed.

I recently set up a pair of NS-10s with a Crown K1. Both myself and the client were more than adequately impressed. No fan, runs quiet and sounds like music. Beware of the Hafler Pro5000 series from the early 90's...very unreliable units. A major movie theatre chain I used to do service for had them in a multiplex and after ALL of them (we are talking 12 Bi-Amped SDDS 8 channel Plus subs screens all using them) failed 3-4 times over a 1.5 year period, they had to throw them out. Hafler kinda gave up on them, too. Not a very good record....I spec Crown, BGW and Yamaha now.
