Default mac finder icons being rearranged

Anybody have the icons in icon view in the finder rearranged after using 10.3.8??
very bizzar... since i installed 10.3.8 from 10.3.7, every so often the icons of session files and folders in a session folder are rearranged. seems like by name...
irritating to say the least....
it could be the os 10.8.5, which iv gone to from 10.7.5 ..
im not really sure whats doing it....tough to trouble shoot...

thoughts?
thx

Question Re: mac finder icons being rearranged

What is your Finder window view? Icons? List? Columns?

Default Re: mac finder icons being rearranged

i use icon view mostly... list to sort by date (infrequently)
in icon view, no sort order. i arrange the icons manually to reflect the status of the project im working on.
my file names are "name datecode" like this: "brad pierce 042114"
i will then dupe and rename the file on the next mix session, i use the current date on the new file (the one i duped)
that way i have a "historic" path of edits, and never worry about a "only one" copy of a session being corrupted.
AND I dont have "a million" backup files like you end up with using PT's auto backup method.

Im am currently trying to duplicate the issue. I'll post if i can get it to happen.
thanks for your attention...
I am also using PT 11.2 on this (mac pro) system recently.
this may be an OS issue, I'v seen a few posts on apple support about this... not sure if they are PT users...
(i just changed my system config in signature, sorry for the old info on my last post)

Now that i have pt 10.3.9hd and pt 11.1.3 running. This is very annoying!! If i have a finder window open, icon view, no sorting of icons, when i open the session (one of many in that window), the finder window suddenly sorts to icon view set to name(alphabetical). It moves all the icons that I have carefully positioned for my workflow. When I close that session, the window stays sorted. argh!!!!!!!

Any ideas on what I can try to prevent the sorting is much appreciated!

thoughts??????????

Lightbulb Re: mac finder icons being rearranged

Arrange the icons however you want them. In the Finder, go to View-->Show View Options. Then double-click on your session. Do any of the settings in the View Options window change when you double-click your session?

You likely have Arrange By "date modified" or "size" and both Pro Tools and the Finder are doing everything expected of them.

View that folder as a list and then check what they are being arranged by and see if that is the same as the "Arrange by" setting for that folder.

Default Re: mac finder icons being rearranged

Hi, thank you for your suggestions!
The first time i launched pt 11.2 and opened a session, the icons in icon view were rearranged by name. in "view options" window, nothing changed. i had arrange by "none" and sort by "none" selected.
i then quite pt, relaunched, opened same session. in the finder window, the icons were NOT rearranged. After repeated attempts, (no reboot) i could not get the icons to rearrange when opening a session.
i switched finder to list view in view options and tried the exercise again, no re ordering of the icons happened and no automatic change in the "view options" window happened.
so you can see, its intermittent or i havnt found the order of events to replicate this...
from googling this, i see other mac users have had this.. (no pt users from what i can tell). No solutions have been found as far as i can see...
i do have 2 monitors running.

It also happens in PT 10.3.9

Darryl, when you say "You likely have Arrange By "date modified" or "size" and both Pro Tools and the Finder are doing everything expected of them."
are you saying pt's digibase directory system has an effect on the mac os, regarding sort order? (ie sorting in digibase affects the sort order in the finder)..
thanks for the thoughts, any more send em' along...!!!
