Default Ok, hope you can help - again

So, i went out and got a power amp and a monitor today, when I have the Eleven rack connected via XLR to the power amp and then via speaker cable it loses sound when Pro tools is engaged.

When I have the eleven rack connected to the power amp via guitar cable, Pro tools works fine (the monitor is connected the same both ways). So, I'm thinking there is a command somewhere that allows me to tell pro tools that I'm using XLR, not a guitar cable but i can't find any documentation anywhere.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm using an Imac via USB for Pro tools.

Do you have the output setup correctly?

Read through the manual, its a PDF so you can search for your exact question

I know what your talking about. It something with PT not the 11r. I use xlr outs to my monitors. If I open PT there's no sound output. But if I arm the track there is. Arm your track and you should have sound back.

This is because in the PT 11R window under "user settings" (I believe), there are options that ask where you want your output signal to go - like DAW, Digital outs, etc. You have to toy with it and get the one that gives you the output you're looking for.

I did that and nothing happened, I went through all of them without any luck

I'm new to digital recording, what do you mean by "arm the track"?

on each track, there is a little button thats something like a small circle encompassed by a square. Kinda like the "record" button you see in PT, or even an old time tape deck when you're trying to make a mix tape off the radio for your girlfriend.

But yeah, you won't hear any input sound in PT unless the track is armed. (that little button pressed)

Which is why I have suggested you read the manual. Not just the Eleven Rack part, but the whole manual that talks about Pro Tools. It will tell you exactly how to setup the 11R, set tracks, arm tracks, ect....

You can also go here:
http://www.avid.com/US/support/customer-assist

Choose the 11R, then the TUTORIALS tab. Watch all the vid's and you should have a better understanding of how Pro Tools works.

Wow, this is a pretty bad feature, I mean it completely effects the response and tone of the guitar through the 11R. How does this allow for competent manipulation of the rigs?
