I got my Glyph GT050Q from Guitar Center for $249 and it kicks butt. ProTools saw it and started working immediately.

Where I work we use the GT103 three drive chassis and the 1TB drives.

Glyph makes a lot of drive config's so depends on if you want to go FW, SATA or have option to do both. They make single drives in cases or one or three drive chassis.

Why Glyph? They're crazy overpriced. If you're shopping macsales.com, get one of their drives/enclosures, much more resonably priced and the exact same performance as a Glyph.

Pretty much any Firewire 400 drive that has the Oxford 911, 912, or 924 chipset. I personally love my Glyph drive but hey that's me!! It has 4 different interfaces and a cooling fan, so to me it's money well spent.

Many years ago I bought Glyph Drives. My largest Glyph drive is 17 GB, if that shows its age.

From then on I have bought drives from Other World Computing (macsales.com).

You should also check out http://www.rocstor.com/Products/rocpro-850.html

I have done a ton of research on external hard drives recently, and these are the best bang for the buck IMO.

You can find the 850 at buy.com for about $200. Good luck!

Read Glyph's warranty and the data recovery they will attempt if a drive dies. We still back up to a second Glyph drive, but good to know if one goes they will help try to recover the data on it.

I agree with Shady.... why are you hooked on Glyph? They do not have a stranglehold on making reliable drives and they doooo cost ya.. There are many reliable drives out there with the Oxford chipset.

I have an 80Gb rack Glyph from 2003 and it started acting weird about two years ago. I got a firewire drive from Other World computers to replace it and I have been happy with it. I forget the manufacturer. I will edit the post with that info later.

EDIT: My drive is OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro from Other World Computing. 500Gb
