Default How good are seagate drives?

Need to buy an external drive and there are some good deals for seagate drives this weekend for 500gb & 1tb. Does any1 use this brand? I've always used WD but dont wanna pass these deals up if they are worth it.

In my experience i have found WD to be the most unreliable makers of drives, Seagate are one of the best IMHO, it's what Glyph load their enclosures with. You might want to check the chipset, last time i checked seagate did not use Oxford.

As The Dougfather said, I would be concerned about the chipset but not worried about the drives. My failures over 5 years have been to WD and Maxtor(check the length of the warranty).

Seagate has always been one of the upper tier drive companies for many years and as DougFather points out that is what Glyph uses in their systems. I have used WD drives at home for many years they are good drives for the money, but do get noisy over time. To be clear I'm talking about raw drives. For externals I usually buy cases and fill them myself. Whether you buy external or make your own you have to watch the chipset used in the case very important for PT use.

Along with the Glyph drives and you can also check out http://www.macsales.com and take a look at their FireWire hard drives too. They are pretty inexpensive and stable as hell.

I've used Seagate external and internal drives for years and have never had a problem with them. They seem rock solid.

I've had trouble with OWC customer service in the past, so stay away from them now.

I've had good luck with Glyph external HDs so far.

I've only used seagate drives when I build my own. When I buy a pre-built drive,it's only from OWC.. macsales
