User tips for D command & D control

Common .... it's been out for a while ... let's do some user tips. The not directly in the manual kinda stuff or things we might have forgotten about ......

Channel strip related stuff :

- say you have your channel strips in EQ edit mode. holding CTRL + selecting the EQ switch of a corresponding channel will bring up the EQ plugin window of that particular track. Handy way of targetting a plugin window without focussing that track.

Works also in inserts view of course .... CTRL + the select switch of the corresponding insert to bring up that window on screen

- to set the plugin that's in edit mode on the channel strip to factory default : set to default switch + insert switch on the strip. I like to hold the 'set to default' switch while I do that or any action with that button .... be it to make sure it's off when I let go.

Carefull with this one ... if you hit the insert switch on the global channel it will reset ALL strips in edit mode to factory default and you don't wanna do that.

a pref setting I realy like : Operation / Touch Value ON / OFF

- 99 % of the time I have that set to OFF. Basdically because I don't realy care wether my fader is at -3.6 or -3.8. Neither am I interested in knowing wether the Q for the the MF is 1.8 or 2.1 .... And the show value switch on the global strip makes so much more sence this way. If you rally wanna make sure you're rolling off at 120 Hz then you set the knobs to value. Big advantage of having the Touch value pref OFF is that you know at all times what's under your fingers.

Did you know that there are 6(!) ways to focus a track on Main unit?

1). Press lower Select button on a track while in Focus mode (‘Focus’ LED is lit on Main unit, indicating that select buttons by faders are used for focusing tracks)
2). Press “Go to” button on Main (located on the right lower corner of the unit) – “Focus on Track” dialog is posted. Type in the Track Position Number or use Up/Down Arrow keys to change Track Position Number in the dialog, hit OK – the track with selected number is focused on Main.
3). With mouse click on plug-in plate or send or Mic Pre plate or panner on track X. If the preference “ApTrgt” is set to “yes” in Soft Keys/Operation, track X will be focused on Main. If preference “ApTrgt” is set to “no” in Soft Keys/Operation, clicking on different track elements in PT session will not re-focus the track.
4). Pressing right “Nudge 1” button in Bank/Nudge section while holding Command Key (Mac) will focus first track in the session on Main. Pressing it again will focus track 2 and so on. Generally, if track with position number X is focused, pressing right “Nudge 1” button in Bank/Nudge section while holding Command Key will focus track with position number X+1. Pressing left “Nudge 1” button in Bank/Nudge section while holding Command Key will focus track with position number X-1. If the first track in the session is focused, pressing left “Nudge 1” button in Bank/Nudge section while holding Command Key will un-focus the track. Similarly, if the last track in the session is focused, pressing right “Nudge 1” button in Bank/Nudge section while holding Command Key will un-focus the track.
5). To focus a track, which is in Input mode:
Should the user need access to the input channel while it is shown in Inline mode, the user can press <Cmd + Select> next to the encoder for the channel and it will focus that track in the Focus Channel Strip.
6.) To focus a track and assign plug-in to CF section, Plug-In mode:
When a channel strip is in top-level plug-in mode, pressing Select switch by plug-in X’s name will place plug-in X in CF section, Plug-In mode – CF section becomes active, the track with plug-in X is focused on Main.

Nr 6, not sure if I'm missing something, but I think you mean holding the command key + selecting plugin X from the channel strip right ? Because that does what you describe : bring custom faders into plugin edit mode and focus the track that plugin is on to the focus channel strip.

Another one :

the LOCK buttons. There's LOCK buttons on the CF section and on both dynamics and EQ center sections. Plenty of usefull combinations possible with those buttons

I especially like the lock plugin to custom faders. You can for example lock your larc revibe setup to CF plugins and still make full use of custom fader groups, focus channels etc etc ... at any time you can recall your larc setup by pushing the plugin button in the CF section.

ctrl + command + touch ANY button, fader or encoder that has a parameter assigned to it that can be automated will turn the corresponding tracks' view into editing mode for that parameter in the edit window.

for example : Ctrl + command + touch the fader will bring that track into volume view .... touch the pan into pan view .... press the mute button into mute view etc etc ...

works of course also with plugin automation enabled parameters.

ctrl + command + track select button will bring that track back into waveform display.


couldn't live without it.

Hi everyone !! Newbie on the D-command, thankful for a nice thread.

I think I found a seventh one...
In select mode, hold down Ctrl + Shift while selecting track, and it gets focused

Is there a way to go direct to a plugin parameter's graphic representation with keystroke and/or touch? ie. avoid mousing to choose it from automation - I know we can command/opt/control arrow through all - but that s not so useful with ... one eq and 20+ parameters...

ever wanted to control levels, mutes and meter of 48 Channels without nudging. And this on a standard 16 channel d-control!
this is the way:

1. group 48 channels in 8 groups. beginning with 1-6, 7-12, 13-18 etc. be sure, that the controls (volume, mute etc.) are not linked
2. create 8 vca´s and link them with this 8 groups
3. creat a custom groups with this 8 vca
4. hide the vca´s in edit window. be sure to activate show hidden trackss on d-control
5. now you can jump to your cusstom group and you will have 48 encoders, where you can control levels, mute and metering

of course vca´s are not thought to work in this way, but it is nice to have (with a small icon) complete level control on 1/8 square meter
