Default Focusrite OctoPre Mkii to 003+ via ADAT?

Hey,

I've been searching message boards and forums and haven't found my answers yet, was wondering if someone could help me out.

I just picked up the OctoPre Mkii and am trying to hook it up via lightpipe. I'm running out from the octopre to the in on the digi003 and am not getting signal in ProTools from the focusrite. I'm getting signal on the octopre itself and am wondering if I haven't set up things right within the software. Please walk me through what I should do. thanks!

Did you go to Setup>IO and add the paths for the lightpipe inputs? They appear as 9 thru 16(17&18 are for the SPDIF input).

I've gone in, I guess I'm not getting how to assign the paths.

Im in a similar situation but I have a profire 2626. I made an assumption that I go adat out of the focusrite to the in on the profire. What I am looking or is what do I plug in where and then what needs to be done in Ptools if I want the pro fire to be the master and the clock source. I will check the IO suggestion above for now.

Thanks

To use the ProFire as the master(or the 003 with the other setup) you will need 2 lightpipe "cables". OUT from the external to IN of the interface(ProFire or 003) and OUT from the interface to IN of the external piece. As for enabling the inputs, Go to Setup>IO and click on the INPUT tab. The left side will list the available input ports. The GRID will show dots so you can trace your finger accross the screen and see what ports are assigned(and available). If the GRID shows fewer than 18 inputs, just click on Add Path, click dots on the GRID and make things work. If this is still confusing, search youtube for some videos. Once you learn how to navigate the IO setup, you will find it handy as you can streamline and customize it for your setup and work flow(like deleting input paths you never use, or naming inputs accorin to what preamp or function you use all the time(like my IO list which shows ISA1 thru ISA4 for my Focusrite preamp, and Vintech or API for my other extrenal preamps). Beats the heck out of Analog 1, Adat 2, etc

Thanks man, was unaware I needed two optical cables. Initially I thought one cable did the job for all 8 pres but when I went to plug in I saw there were 2 ins and outs. Then I thought I could use 1 cable for the 1st 4 pres on the Octopre and the 2nd cable would be for the other four. Off to the music store I go. Thanks for your help. Let you know once the riff starts flowing again.

You can get away with a single lightpipe IF(big IF) you use the external device as the clock source.
