OK, + 1. I'm going to at least try the Euphonix Artist controllers. BTW, I passed on a 9,000$ Icon. I love the d-command and have the money. So, none of those factors influenced me. I just want to use a Controller that works with more then on DAW. That would also sell hardware for Digi. DIGI don't be a BETAMAX!!!!!
Peace,
Brandon

This questions is mainly for CR Postmixer and Georgia.
I'm looking at the System 5 MC. I currently use PT and a D-Command.
I'm investigating Nuendo and like what I see so far.
My question is what do you guys use for video playback and synchronization?
Also if your using the MC how well can you access automation features with PT?
Thanks

Hey Darth,

We are waiting right now on upgrading my S-5 to the hybrid software, which would give me HUI+ control with PT. We are also exploring putting in 2 fusion consoles to replace our ProControls. So we'll see where that ends up. Although I have seen the S-5 MC in action I wasn't super impressed with the PT capabilities but the other DAWS rock with it! I think Georgia may have much more insight on that? As far as video, we use Mojo right now but we must find a good solution for non linear HD soon. We are finishing everything in HD now so that will be important. And as for Syncronization we use Soundmaster. Now there's a tool that simply can't be beat. Worth every penny, everyday! Just curious, Have you looked at the fusion? It is basically the S-5 MC but also has Euphonix DSP and allows so much more flexibility for bussing and monitoring. I guess cost could be an issue too.

What I'm primarily looking at is a 16 fader system 5 mc. The board will be used with Nuendo and PT.
When mixing I personally don't enjoy having to bounce back and forth between keyboard and control
surface. Editing isn't as easy on a control surface that I understand. I don't deal with large track count. I'm not mixing features or long format TV. So I only need functionality. I want to know if I will have the same access to all the features of PT with a S-5 MC. I need exisitng users to to tell me of their experiences good or bad.

The kicker is that you can use the same control surface with a Euphonix DSP core for large format mixing at a reasonable price if you want to. Plus, if I may be so bold, Protools does not offer MADI, an inexpensive and much easier to set up way of getting your audio out and in to a console. I mean, what the hell does Harrison have MADI inputs for ? Certainly not for Digihardware, as you need converter strapped in front of them.
What about the SSL XLogic Delta? Hook it up to your PT cards and it looks like 4 192's (albeit digital only)

SSL DELTA LINK
Thanks. I was not aware of the SSL solution.

+1 on the topic!!!

Darth

We run PT and Nuendo on our S5MC w 32 fdrs.

The control over PT leaves a lot out.
Plug in handling is awkward at best. As it is HUI based there are only four controls to PT and one of those four is always parameter select, leaving just three rotarys to actually control the plugin.
Metering is slow and low res (also caused by HUI). And only stereo metering is supported by HUI regardless if you have mono, stereo or 5.1 tracks.

You can use the faders though, they seem to work quite alright

It's no where near Icon integration and functionality wich in it's turn (imho) is easily beate when compared to mix handling witn Eucon and Nuendo.

Still a lot of room for improvmets with the S5MC though, I do love it but it does have a few quirks.
