Default Re: Need a new quieter fan to HD IO..

I put Silenx fans in both my HDIO 16 x 16 analogue and Omni over a year ago. They share a rack with a Mytek 8x192 and occasionally my Apogee Rosetta 800 gets switched on too. In other words, a lot of heat between them all.

I have the Omni at the bottom, HDIO above, then Mytek then Rosetta. There's clear rack spaces above and below each unit, and they've been working totally fine since I did the upgrade.

I got mine from Tiger Direct in Canada.

For the HDIO: Silenx IXP5211 iXtrema Pro Fan - 80mm x 15mm, 11dBA, 18CFM (S23-1010)
MPN: IXP5211

And for the Omni: Silenx IXP1114 iXtrema Pro Fan - 40mm x 10mm, 14dBA, 5CFM (S23-1000)
MPN: IXP1114

All up they came to $25 + tax + shipping + my install time but it's some of the best money I've ever spent in my studio.

Cheers,

D

To the poster above - I am glad things are working for you but the fan used in the 16X16 is 1/2 the CFM of the original. Not a great choice to my thinking.

The efx-08-15.
can it push enough air for the 16x16?

The cfm are close to the original fan if I don't remember wrong..

Hi!
I replaced the stock fan with a Noctua NF-R8 PWM:
http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=p...products_id=45

Everything works perfectly and the HD I/O 16x16 is almost inaudible:
10,2 dB / 1300 RPM / 39,4 CFM

Don't say "it doesn't", when it did.
Maybe you got a different fan.

I changed my HD I/O fan to the SilenX 08-15. Connectors didn't fit, the first fan I got was broken from the start...
The second one works. It's so quiet it's scary. The cfm in the specs match the original fan, I hope that's true...

You should know that m3/h is not CFM. This fan has only 23CFM at 1300 RPM. Use this calculator to check: http://www.endmemo.com/sconvert/m3_hft3_min.php
You should consider running it at 1800RPM.

I did a simple video on how to replace the fan here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBaFzLtGG0Y

Changed my fan on my HD IO following these directions. A few steps differed, but it was enough to guide me through. Good luck! I've been loving the results...
