Made a MIDI song in Reason Now I want to ReWire and play real instruments. How?
I've got a nice track of pads and rhythm in reason and I'd now like to move to Pro Tools and track the rest of the real instruments. I'd like to rewire but the thing I'm noticing is that I have to open PT first and then Reason. Then Reason takes on the tempo and etc set in Pro Tools. However this is NOT what I'm after. I already have my song made in Reason. Now I want Pro Tools to reWire Reason but have Reason set the tempo and bars for editing in PT etc. How do I do this?
thanks! Nick |

You note the tempo you used in Reason, then set your Pro Tools session to that tempo.

Re: Made a MIDI song in Reason Now I want to ReWire and play real instruments. How?
I have always been under the impression that it is better to use ProTools as the sequencer, and just use Reason as a VI. I'm not familiar enough with Reason to know what editing/MIDI features you might be giving up by not sequencing in Reason, but it sure makes things more difficult..
Maybe (I'm shooting from the hip here) you should export all your MIDI files out of Reason, which could include your tempo mapping etc, and then drag them into ProTools. If you drag a multi track MIDI file right into the edit window, ProTools should make MIDI tracks for each instrument, set a tempo map, and all your controller data etc should come in too... Then you just need to make an AUX track and insert rewire there. Now you can open Reason and route all your instruments etc.. At this point, you will not use the Reason transport or sequencing... Everything will be run by ProTools.. Am I making sense?
