Default Pt 11.3.1 not working on new imac with os 10.13.6

PT 11.3.1 NOT WORKING ON NEW IMAC WITH OS 10.13.6

Hi
My old Imac just died so i have bought a new one now and it is running OS 10.13.6. My old imac was running OS 10.10.5.
My PT version is 11.3.1. I booted it up on the new imac but I wasn’t able to get it working so I reinstalled 11.3.1 and then tried to boot it up again. It ran through its boot up process but at the end I got the following message.

Could not create a new document because Assertion in "/Volumes/Development/151228/ProTools/DFW/MacBuild/../Views/UMenu.MacOS.mm", line 1549.

Can someone advise me?
I can download PT 11.3.2 from Avid. I will do this next but in the meantime I thought id ask the forum in case someone can help. I am guessing it has something to do with the new operating system on the Mac. I own Pro Tools out right (perpetual product) and because of this Avid aren’t able to assist me technically unless I pay the support fee. It is a last resort as my finances are poor.

Thanks for any advice

Michael

Thank you Sardi. Yes, as expected it is the Mac OS. My perpetual product licence probably won’t include PT version 12, but even that seems to be problematic (ie unlikely to work) with OS 10.13.6.

A possible solution could be to partition my new imac and put an older OS on a second partition. I still have the hard drive from my old imac (a 3.1g i5 from 2011) so maybe it is possible. However I note that the new imac wouldn’t boot with my old hard drive if I made it the start up disc so maybe not….responses welcome on this one…

I cant afford the upgrade to PT 2018 so I am in a spot.

Your new iMac, if the current model and not a refurb, can only run High Sierra or Mojave. You can’t downgrade past 10.13.

Either way, it looks like you’ll need to upgrade to PT12 onwards to get official compatibility.

OK, yes it is a new 2017 model imac, 27 inch, 3.4g i5.

So you are confirming that selecting a startup disk that is not running at least OS 10.13 will not allow start up on this Mac?

That is a quite a bummer...

thanks Sardi

You can only run whatever OS that iMac shipped with when it was first released.

Now that you mentioned what machine it is, it seems you’re in luck, to some degree. That machine originally shipped with Sierra. 10.12.4 to be precise. So if you can get your hands on an installer, you can downgrade it to that version.

But, you’ll still need to update to a current version of PT, as v11 isn’t supported. You can try and see if it works, but there’s no guarantee and definitely no support.

IMHO, if you’re going to have to update your version of Pro Tools, you might as well stay current with your OS. Mojave support is around the corner and there’s a fair few reports of people running 2018.12 on that OS without issues.

OK, you can get 10.12 installs on a USB stick from amazon. That should work I guess. I can always upgrade up to 10.13 or 10.14 later.

I still have to work out how i can get through this without upgrading to PT 2018 as I can't afford that. From what I am gathering as a PT 11 owner i can upgrade to PT 12 for a one off fee of $300 US. That might be my cheapest option...

That $300 upgrade will get you PT2018. You can’t purchase PT12 anymore.

Basically, it’s all subscription licenses now. You’d be getting an annual perpetual license to the current version for $300.

All this info is out there on the AVID site. Do a search and you’ll find what you need.

Look at buying the upgrade from a third party like RSPE as they often have 20% discounts.

But you still get a combo license asset of 10/11/12/2018 with the reinstatement right? At least according to this page at Sweetwater: https://www.sweetwater.com/insync/pr...upgrade-chart/

I believe you do as your upgrading not buying new.

But, there wouldn’t be much point at running an older version. He/she has bought into the new subscription. Why wouldn’t you use the latest version with the latest features?
