Pro Tools First Catalina Compatibility
I have been doing my best to get some of my clients to move to Pro Tools. One client bought the MacBook Pro 16", and of course it comes with macOS Catalina (as does every new mac). I showed him how to register for Pro Tools First so that he could try out the app and see if he can get used to it . . .
and away we go . . . Yes, we've had the full version of Pro Tools working with Catalina since last year - but here we are nine months later, and still no Pro Tools First update. How difficult can it be to make a slimmed down version of 2020.5? I can't even show my client now why it would be worth him switching. This "First" version is an important stepping stone for pulling in your future customers, and this incredibly long wait for an update does nothing for Avid's business. Please. Pretty please . . . do yourselves a favor. . . and at least give us all some updates on progress, expected release date, etc. Last edited by Tweakhead; 08-14-2020 at 12:55 PM. Reason: meant to have "Catalina" in the title. maybe an admin can re-title the actual thread name. |

Re: Pro Tools First Mojave Compatibility
If you are just looking to get their feet wet, you could have them try the trial version of regular Pro Tools.

Re: Pro Tools First Catalina Compatibility
thansk, but it seems he'd have to buy a physical iLok just to try it out, as they don't offer a simple web auth for the trial.

Re: Pro Tools First Mojave Compatibility
You can install and use Pro Tools Full with ilok Cloud Session. The only need is a internet connection. No physical ilok dongle needed since Pro Tools 2018. Should work for your client as well.

Re: Pro Tools First Catalina Compatibility
Thanks Netmania. I didn't think that was even possible. Much appreciated for the tip.
In fact I found a cool walkthru on YouTube for anyone interested in doing it. (this dude should do voiceovers professionally): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0prY209ai4 p.s. A nice little tip for anyone wanting to download a YouTube video in either 720p or 1080p, is to simply add the two letters 'pp' after the word 'youtube' in any url. eg: https://www.youtubepp.com/watch?v=x0prY209ai4 It will then give you the ability to save any YouTube tutorial via y2mate.com. |

Re: Pro Tools First Mojave Compatibility
Is it the case that Pro Tools First isn't compatible at all with Catalina right now?

Re: Pro Tools First Mojave Compatibility
As stated July 21 from Avid still no Catalina Support. Maybe it will come after Big Sur is introduced :-(
