Emails keep getting returned
Hi
Digidelivery LT has been working fine for 6 months, and all of a sudden every email it sends (to guest accounts or otherwise) gets returned to me. Funny thing is, when I send a delivery to my own email address, it works ok, I receive both emails. My understanding is that even when sending a delivery to myself, the email goes out of my local network. So I don't see why deliveries to me would work. But anyway, I can't figure it out. Every email gets returned, and it has happened with 6-7 different clients, all at different locations and on different networks. Nothing has changed in my router setup, except I opened up ports recently for Source Connect. Once I forward the returned mail to the client, the client can receive the deliveries fine. When the client sends me deliveries, the email that the server generates that gets sent to the clients also gets returned. Any ideas? I tried rebooting the server and the router but that didn't fix it. Thanks! |

Re: Emails keep getting returned
Does it indicate anywhere in the email why it's getting returned, exactly?
Who is your ISP? |

Re: Emails keep getting returned
I get the follow returned message in the email (I x'd out the name of the recipient, and wrote "[my ip address]" instead of using my IP address)
"The original message was received at Wed, 2 Aug 2006 14:40:58 -0700 from localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1] ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors ----- <[email protected]> (reason: 554 mail03.viacom.com) ----- Transcript of session follows ----- ... while talking to mail.viacom.com.: <<< 554 mail01.viacom.com ... while talking to mail1.viacom.com.: QUIT <<< 554 mail03.viacom.com 554 5.0.0 Service unavailable Reporting-MTA: dns; localhost.localdomain Received-From-MTA: DNS; localhost.localdomain Arrival-Date: Wed, 2 Aug 2006 14:40:58 -0700 Final-Recipient: RFC822; [email protected] Action: failed Status: 5.5.0 Diagnostic-Code: SMTP; 554 mail03.viacom.com Last-Attempt-Date: Wed, 2 Aug 2006 14:40:59 -0700 " And for someone else: The original message was received at Mon, 31 Jul 2006 10:05:58 -0700 from localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1] ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors ----- <[email protected]> (reason: 550-Message rejected because static-[my ip address].nycmny.east.verizon.net) ----- Transcript of session follows ----- ... while talking to xstudios.com.: DATA <<< 550-Message rejected because static-[my ip address].nycmny.east.verizon.net <<< 550-(localhost.localdomain) [[my ip address]]:33564 is blacklisted at <<< 550 cbl.abuseat.org see Blocked - see ]http://cbl.abuseat.org/lookup.cgi?ip=[my ip address] 550 5.1.1 <[email protected]>... My ISP is Verizon DSL in Manhattan. |

Re: Emails keep getting returned
Hey Digi
This is still happening. It went away for a while, and now it's happening again. Any thoughts on troubleshooting this problem? |

Re: Emails keep getting returned
From what you wrote above, it appears that the email in at least one case is being being blocked because CBL (for Composite Blocking List) has listed your specific ISP as being blocked, and the receiver's ISP is using that listing to block your email.
According to their website, the receiver can have your ISP removed from the blocking list: http://cbl.abuseat.org/ Quote:

Re: Emails keep getting returned
BTW, the best way to avoid getting blacklisted is to edit the hostname of your system to have a registered domain name. For instructions on how to do this, see page 25 of the current Admin Guide (v2.1). You can download this from the DigiDelivery Support page at www.digidelivery.net
