Question Suggestions for Upgrade from M-Powered 7.0

Hi - I'm looking for suggestions for upgrade of software + OS systems: I have a defunct (as in motherboard fried) PC desk-top, which was always problematic that I would like to resurrect my PT M-Powered 7.0 sessions from into a new system (remove 160 GB hard-drive which contains all music files). I am using a Firewire Project I/O interface, FYI. Would like suggestions as to best route to go in terms of both OS and software upgrades.

My first question is: how compatible is PT M-Powered 7.0 with PT MP 9? Will I be able to import those old audio files into PT MP 9?

This is what I've narrowed it down to, being basically a computer illiterate when it comes to recording technology:

1. Sweet Water Creation Station Windows 7 OS, w/upgrade to PT MP 9.
2. Used Creation Station w/XP - continue to use PT M-Powered 7.0 (this would actually work better w/accessories like Frontier Design Tranzport). Leary about used systems - Sweet Water won't build new system w/old XP OS- they claim new motherboards won't even work w/XP - not sure I comprehend this.

Thanks.

Vince

Personally, I would choose option 1. Version 9 has some key benefits over 7, and you will want them(once you have them, you won't want to be without them)

Just remember that it has been announced that Pro Tools MP will soon be discontinued.

Thanks for input all. What happens to all the M-Audio interfaces (such as my Project I/O) once the MP line is discontinued? One has to be content with working with the last version of MP PT's?
