Default Video Card recommendations?

I guess it's time for a new video monitor. My current one seems to flicker and cut in and out randomly. I've tried it on two different computers, and the testing continues.

But browsing the 'net, it appears most new monitors are HDMI, instead of VGA and/or DVI combo. I see a 28.5 on sale for $119 with built in speakers, but only HDMI.

Which means I'll need a new video card as well since mine is long in the tooth, although working fine. I notice refurbished ones are available at similar cost to a handful of adapters to interface HDMI to DVI or VGA.

Any recommendations for video cards? Don't need super fast "gaming", just stable video to see a Pro Tools screen, and I don't mind a refurb.

Just looking for cards to avoid I guess.

I am happy with a pair of inexpensive(under $50 each) nVidia cards(a 610 and a 620). The 620 card has an HDMI out, but you can also use a DVI-HDMI adapter and that will work fine too. Those adapters are available both as a simply adapter that goes on one end of a regular HDMI cable, or as a cable with HDMI at one end and DVI at the other(to connect to any DVI graphics card).

On Windows 10 I had lots of Video Engine crashes with Geforce GT9500. Whenever I played back a video outside protools (quicktime/mediaplayer/web browser/...) either AVE or Nvidia driver or both would crash.
It`s more stable now with a GT730, however when I switch outputs (e.g. I have two monitors connected on the GT730 and a projector on a BM Intensity Pro, but sometimes I want to put the second monitor on the projector) I get quite some graphic glitches, like the task bar turning invisible and unusable.

I have this one.....

Geforce GTX760

I got it b/c it had native mac support for my hackintosh...but I have since migrated to Win10Pro and have been extreemly happy.

It's not a top of the line but it's a bit better than the cheapest. I think I paid $150 iirc.

No issues with multiple outs.

My PC has an Nvidia Quadro K4000. The used ones are selling on ebay for between $200 and $250. The drivers are still supported and it will drive higher res 4K monitors at 60Hz. Three outputs: 2 DP and 1 DVI. Specs for it are on the Nvidia site. The card will actually support three monitor simultaneously. Holds 3GB vram and takes up only one slot. Uses one 6 pin aux power connector.

I run a Phillips 28" 4K monitor.

There is a Mac version called the Quadro 4000 for Mac which is also one slot, but has less performance and only 1 DP connector and a DVI connector. The two-slot Mac version is called the Quadro K5000 for Mac. Those are closer to $500-$600 used.

The Phillips monitor likes to run at 60-Hz and, although it accepts DP, HDMI, DVI and VGA connections, it prefers the DP connector because those run at 60 Hz. The DP connector also carries sound and shows up as an output device in Audio-MIDI, but you have to change the monitor's own settings to hear the audio stream, it defaults to HDMI. The monitor also has an analog output jack.

Why not buy a DVI to HDMI adapter. It's what I did and works fine.
