Default Eleven Rack - XLR TRS Main Output signal

Trying to get the 11R main XLR main outputs into an Apollo 8 interface using XLR-TRS balanced cables and cabling into the Apollos combo TRS/Line or line inputs. I don't get any signal and curious if the it's the 11R or the interface.

When I use my Apollo Twin USB, my mic/Line selector has to be set to "Mic" on the channel being used. In other words, the Twin version will not let me treat an XLR signal like a Line signal.

I do not know if this is the case in Apollo 8 or not. We can look at other things after that.

I am running the 11R main outputs XLR into my Apollo 8P with "MIC" selected at the input. I'm getting a bunch of hiss only. No idea what it is, but it registers on the interface meters. I assume this approach is simply taking the main xlr outputs into Logic X as a simple line source thru the Apollo acting as the interface....ie: it's just recording an audio track.

The 11R is an interface....should I be using it as the audio input (vs the Apollo)? I tried this and notice in the Audio/Midi OS window if you pick one for input it automatically picks the same for the output. ie: I can't have the 11R as my audio input and my Apollo as my audio output....osx won't allow it. Logic doesn't seem to mind though, but just trying to see if there's a combination there to work....I've tried everything I can think of and I get nothing.

This stuff should not be this hard and it's frustrating as heck. All I want to do is record clean and effected 11R guitar tracks into logic.

I'm sure I'm missing something stupid here, but any guidance or tips would be appreciated. I'm tired of spending my evenings always trying figure out and leverage the technology vs making music :)

thanks in advance...

Yeah, that hiss on the mic-in on the Apollo seems to be an omni-present. I found it to be common after googling it and finding some discussion about on the UAD forum. The trick to it is to get as strong signal going in to the Apollo as we can to make the just sort of not matter. I was quite surprised to se there was an udible hiss with the mic-in set to 15-20db and stronger amounts at 30db.

So let's focus back on the 11R to get the strong signal we need: Just as a test to make sure we are getting guitar tone from your main XLR outs. Can you hook up your monitors to the main XLR outputs on the 11R and get guitar tone coming through, yes?

We'll get there.

The 11R is outputting a LINE level signal so it should NOT go in via XLR. Connect it to the TRS inputs and set them to LINE/Instrument/DI(whatever corresponds to your interface) and set any switches to the proper position(certainly NOT mic level)

the 20db pad works well. The Apollo is not switchable. Well,it can be switched, but you will not get any signal if you choose Line when using XLR and Mic when using TRS. That switch has to come before the box via direct input switch/swap or a purpose made cable.

But first, we need to make sure we're getting signal out of the 11R.
