Default Re: 9600 to G3 or G4 Proc. What is the best?

I have a 9500 with Newer G3 300/300 and Adaptec 2940UW, D24 card, two Mix Farms, one vintage farm and the (remaindered!) ixMicro Dual monitor card.

While I know that this is about a generation and a half behind the hardware discussed here, it is stable as a -rock- and I love it.
I just don't have to think about the system any more, just start up and make music.

Now, a pal of mine had problems with the 9500 and a Newer G3 400 card, so I know that the 9500 is a dead end, but IMO the 96's and the Newer cards seem (from what I've been told firsthand by other PT pals) to be great.

YMMV

Default Re: 9600 to G3 or G4 Proc. What is the best?

I encountered numerous freak problems with the automation on my 9600 running PT 5.0.1. After having consulted my PT guru he deemed my system in need for an upgrade and after going through options with him, I tried installing a Newer G3/300 card which miraculously solved almost all my problems. As the Newer vendor has offered me an upgrade to the G3/400 I'm now ready to try this one.
As for buying a new G4, my calculations show a high price to upgrade my audio/MIDI setup (nearly 8,000 USD!) with no other performance gain than speed.
As I'm not running a top commercial studio, I've decided to wait for a while and trust my 9600/G3 400 to run my productions until Digi or Apple comes up with new hardware doesn't need an expansion chassis and I can get a good firewire MIDI interface...

My two cents...

Ian
