Reason being I tend to put room tone on a separate track with crossfades when I'm checkerboarding dialog, but then if I drag the room tone into the same track as the dialog track I was fading out of, it becomes an edit and I need to redo it. Granted I'm still a student and maybe that's just bad practice???

Thanks,
Old thread, but I was thinking about the same issue (the opposite of preserving fades), when cutting dialog for a feature length movie ... .

A kind of workaround :
drag the lower clip to the upper track
double-click the fade in area
Edit - Fades - Delete
F for crossfade
(same for the fade out area)

Notes :
The crossfade will be the default crossfade type, which may not be the original intent.
Edit - Fades - Delete : best recalled with a macro / own shortcut.
Or a macro doing the following after dragging the room tone clip to the upper track :
- Arrow down , Shift-Tab , Edit Fades Delete , F , Tab Tab Shift-Tab , Edit Fades Delete , F.
