Default External AD converter SPDIF into MBox...Pops and clicks...??

I'm beginning to think I'm insane...This is easy stuff but apparentlly nothing seems to want to work for me...I connected my Mytek Stereo 96 ADC from the SPDIF out to the SPDIF in on the MMbox..Then I set the hardware to SPDIF and the clock to external....BAD BAD BAD popping, clicking scratching....set to internal clock it's not quite as bad but still clicks and pops etc...The Mytek is set correctly as per the manual....Is anyone else having issues with an MBox externally synched via SPDIF???? I'm can't seem to figure out what the problem is...Maybe I just need to upgrade to new hardware but the protools manual says this should work and I've certainly done it on my old MIX system so i'm stumped....Any help?

Have you tried a different SPDIF cable?

I'm not familiar with the Mytek Stereo 96 ADC, but what is the output of that set to? The name implies that it can go up to a sampling rate of 96, and if that is true it might be set too high for the Mbox. Somebody correct me if I am wrong but I think the Mbox SPDIF's only recognize a 48k signal.

yea, i've confirmed all the settings are correct...24 bit, 44.1 just like I have Pro Tools etc....Oddly, I haven't tried a different cable and will do so tomorrow...Good suggestion.
