Here are just a few of the most recent threads:

PTLE ,98, XP, Vista transition.

WINDOWS VISTA DRIVER?
Vista Update

As for MCE. I really can't imagine Digidesign putting development time and resources into an operating system that has been superseded by a new one.

Googleing "installing xp" brings up many such sites.

It's actually pretty easy. Boot to an XP CD and follow the directions to format the drive and install.

You'll also need the drivers specific to your motherboard which you should be able to download from the HP site/support section before hand. Burn them to a CD and install them after installing XP.

Keep in mind when using XP with PT,especially laptops, to get the best performance......

Create a seperate profile for protools, if you use it for more than just protools.

Right-click my computer, select properties, goto the advanced tab, select settings in the performance category and make sure that you select "adjust for best performance".

You may want to turn off some "unnecessary" services to save resources.

Prefer using physical memory "ram" instead of using virtual memory.

There are a few other things, but they are a bit more "technical"...

SO - after reading all that's been said and written about Vista that I could find here - I'm still left with a basic question:

Is Vista absolutely 100% incompatible with the current version of PTLE and and related hardware - or is it merely, unsupported?

If I upgraded to Vista (not a clean install), what would happen to my PT installation and Mbox Drivers?

They would cease to function.

LOL - I guess that's it in a nutshell! I wonder how many other programs would cease to function as well. I really don't want to find out!

Just for the hell of it, I tried installing Pro Tools on Vista. Had to try, right? The drivers WILL NOT install. So as stated previously, PT will not work with Vista.

Edit: I meant the software will not install.
