Recording vocals with reverb into an SSL 2
Just picked up an SSL 2. How do I record vocals (with reverb) using the Monitor Mix on the SSL 2 into PT? I just want to hear the verb, not record it.
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), 2.3 GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, 16GB SDRAM, MacOS Big Sur 11.7.10, Pro Tools 2023.9 Last edited by Izzi; 02-23-2024 at 11:23 AM. |

You misunderstand. in order to use the Monitor Mix on the SSL 2 to avoid latency the vocal track needs to be muted.

Re: Recording vocals with reverb into an SSL 2
Yeah, I know how to create effects sends and returns in Pro Tools. What I don't get is if the vocal track is muted in Pro Tools, hence using the Monitor Mix on the SSL 2, then how am I sending that vocal to the reverb aux track?
Here's the video on how to set up the SSL 2 in PT. Doesn't mention anything about adding reverb/effects in a real world scenario. https://youtu.be/C7WWYsKp4fY?si=JOUOqgexgix_iPwO |

It’ll do that if your send mode is pre-fader. Switch it to post-fader. |

What'll do that? And switch what to post-fader?
I think you meant the reverse... switch the reverb send on the vox track to pre-fader (blue)? Last edited by Izzi; 02-23-2024 at 10:51 AM. |

Re: Recording vocals with reverb into an SSL 2
Its always been my personal preference to monitor thru Pro Tools and record at a low buffer setting(64) to get plenty low latency. That allows for putting a send on the vocal track to feed an AUX track with a reverb plugin. If you just feel you must work thru the SSL software, might it be possible to ALSO feed the vocal directly to a muted AUX(or AUDIO) track? Doing that would allow you to use a Pre-Fader send to feed an AUX track with a reverb plugin
