Default Dell Dimension 8400 and 002

Is anyone here running a Dell Dimension 8400 with a 002. I know there are compatability issues with the 925 chipset and Mbox but I'm not sure if it affects the 002 firewire products.

Any help would be apprecaited.

Some 925 boards have run PT. Dell has other issues like firewire compatibility. What version of PT are you going to run? This is not a very fast computer by today’s standards.

I know it's not the fastest computer by todays standards but I have a slower computer (Dell 8250 with 512 GB RAM) running PT 7.0 with no problems.

The Dell 8400 is free and is a 3GhZ P4 loaded with 4GB RAM. I was hoping to run PT 8.0. I was going to ad a SIIG firewire card and was hoping this would all be compatable.

My Dell 8250 uses RAMBUS ram and if I wanted to upgrade teh memory it would cost me $300

I'd like to try to use the 8400 if possible.

Any help would be appreciated.

I can only say that when I upgraded to PT8, I didn’t have enough power with my Core 2 duo and needed to go to a Quad. That being said it seems you don’t tax your system the way I do so you may be OK. Your drives will need to be formatted NTFS for PT8. You wil need a T.I. firewire controller.

I don't run that many plug ins. Mostly EQs and some limited reverb. I think I should be fine. You did mention something regarding the the TI firewire controller. Is this within the card or on the mother board? Any help would be appreciated.

The firewire controller is the hardware that runs the firewire port you use. It ca be on the motherboard or an add-on PCI card. Dells have typically been troublesome because they do not use the Texas Instrument chip that is best for Pro Tools.

Thanks...I think I should be ok since I am getting a separate SIIG firewire card. My one open issue is with the 925 chipset. It looks like this chipset is only an issue with Mbox but can anyone confirm if they are successfully using a dell dimension 8400 with an 002 or if anyone is using a 925 family chipset with an 002?

Any help would be apprecaited.
