Is it time for an LE Post forum?
Increasingly we're seeing posts from many LE users who are working in film / video / DVD post. The TDM Post Forum is not always appropriate, and has a different kind of user, and here we primaraily see musicians.
Would it make sense for LE post users to have their own Forum? There's nothing to stop them coming here as well, but it might be useful to concentrate what are specialised tips and advice on the one page. Thoughts on this? |

Re: Is it time for an LE Post forum?
Absolutely Karel. I definitely think so. I'm working on a project right now that I know I'll be hunting you out or trying to e-mail you for some advice. If we had a dedicated forum for LE with video I might be able to find more than just one or two people to ask for advice.

Re: Is it time for an LE Post forum?
I think it would be of most use to newbies - they would see many of their questions are already answered.

Re: Is it time for an LE Post forum?
I would like such a forum, but it seems like a request Digi would be SLLOOOWWWW to respond to. I can hear the Digi marketing types now, "LE is really geared for music...you can do post (with a $1k addon for a timeline and OMF support ), but LE is really made for the home musician."
To add an LE Post forum open them up for all kinds of criticism: No surround, expensive timeline/OMF support, blah, blah... I hope I'm wrong though. |

Re: Is it time for an LE Post forum?
Count me in too!
I'd like it to come to life, after all if Digi is releasing such (expensive) add ons like the DV Toolkit they do belive that post work is possible on the LE platform too. I firmly belive it's the user that makes the difference, and not to be a jerk, but I've been able to do the post work of and entire full lenght indie feature on my LE rig: it certainly takes patience and willing to work out some of the issues, but it's defintely doable. No, it's not going to be comparable to a full scale HD or TDM rig configured for post, but I think that a slew of smaller post projects can be successfully accomplished on LE: let's think about it for a second: Timecode ruler is (yes) usefull, but not mandatory, MIDI I/Os are available, so synchronizing to the outer world is possible (via a device such as MOTU MTP AV or Rosendhall Nanosync) when you aren't working with an internal QT movie, SPdif I/O is easy to hook up to a clock generator for house sync; transfers to DA machines are doable with an ADAT to TDIF interface like RME ADI8; surround...yes that's still the most missing feature, and though it's doable with a surround monitor controller like the SPL SMC (that's high on my shopping list) the internal panning and routing is still too complicated to do with aux sends to be acceptable, but for some "basic" surronud projects it can be done (like when you only have the rear of the hall in a concert). So I definitely think it would be worth it. Cheers L.G. |

COSIGNED!
I will be getting into video in the near future and would love to see many of my newbie questions already answered (the way they were when I first joined here for music). - GAPE |

It occurs to me that 'PTLE Post' might be the wrong name, because that really is a TDM thing. Maybe "PTLE Sound to Picture"? And Windows and Mac should be seperate? What do you think? |
