Default Edit window fade shape editing

Despite using PT since V3, some features I've never used ...

I use the Smart Tool all the time, and create fades using that or keyboard short cuts D / F / G almost exclusively.

So when I place the cursor over a fade in the edit window, and the fade curve turns yellow, I expect to be able to change the shape directly. Except I can't. Which is borne out by this old thread ... PT12.6 Bug With New Edit Window Fade Shaping Feature

So what is the work flow for creating a fade that can be editted directly with the smart tool in the edit window?

There is a check box in preferences that either enables it always or with the requirement of adding the ctrl key.

Once enabled just grab on the fade from the middle of the waveform (i.e. not the top or bottom) and drag left or right.

Do you mean "Smart Tool Fade Adjustment"? Even with it set to "Always On", I still can't adjust the fade shape with the Smart Tool. Changing it to "Requires Command Key" means the fade shape doesn't highlighted in yellow, but neither setting allows me to adjust the shape.

Check your Fade "Shape"

if the shape is either Standard or S-Curve you can change it with smart tool.

if the shape is one of the presets than it won't work.

...also change the "Default Fade Settings" in the prefs. Use one of the two above mentioned.
