Default Paid Update Structure Inquiry

I was wondering, if I skip PT 7.2 and wait for the next paid upgrade, will I have to pay a combined price? I don't want to be a troll here, but I just can't justify updating my PT HD rig.

also, if I switch to Logic or Performer, will I be forced to continue upgrading my PT software?

I feel so trapped.

No, you won't have to pay a combined price if you skip an upgrade and move on to the next one when it is available. Honestly though, Pro Tools HD 7.2 is a big step forward and I think its completely worth every penny. Paying $175 to add more features to a system that generally runs well over $10,000 doesn't make me angry at all. I would gladly keep paying $175 a year to have new features, assuming of course that it doesn't add bugs or cause problems to my workflow. Just ask yourself if the upgrade contains features that you need or will help you work better. If it doesn't, skip it because not everyone has the same needs.

$3.00 for a daily latte = $1,095.00 per year.
Not counting the cost of the base system and plug-ins...just the upgrade alone is worth it.
175/365=>.48 per diem.
Not too bad for all those features.

And no I don't work for Digi or sell their gear.

I'll tell you what is upsetting is spending $20k on digi gear and then 35 days later finding out you have to shell out $175 bucks to upgrade. I know they have to make a cut off somewhere, but 30 days seems short. Luckily my reseller hooked me up.

you know it's not like 7.2 just magically came into existence.
it was previewed at NAB back in April w/ a July-September delivery window.

I'd rather wait to pay for an update which addresses my needs as a user. I appreciate the fact that VCAs functionality is cool but Protools has huge cavernous gaping holes it in its functionality. Why are VCAs digidesign's top priority?

sometimes you just need to vent.
