It means you're behind on the news...

Also, bearing in mind that we're talking the most stripped down version of Pro Tools available... it's not like they're stocking 192s.

Yeah, I've seen this in the big consumer electronic stores even here in Norway.

I love this last line in the sales blurb...

"You'll sound like a pro - even if you've never recorded a note before"

That's the old M-Audio fast track. I think they're throwing in PT essential with it. But they're gone. The new one is the fast track II for around $119. I don't know what this all means. But in this youth culture with artists like Justin Bieber I guess they want to get the producers and songwriters started early. Like in Pre -K.

Don't laugh.

My 6-1/2 year old daughter can (with daddy's help) "write" her own tunes using GarageBand.

I can only imagine what I would have done if I had these tools when I was her age...

My daughter has a real sense of orchestration -- you can book study until you're green, but playing with samples at this age really gives the kids something to grab on to. And then she lays down a very scratchy violin melody and it's just unbearable to listen to -- but it's her music and I'm proud of her. And she's happy.

Just the other day, my daughter said, "Daddy, that's an alto sax playing, right?" -- the fact that she can distinguish this at her age is simply because she's been exposed to it.

I say let the kids have these "toys" -- way more creative than Rock Band.
