Plug-in advice needed
Helping to put together an HD system with some friends. We want to make sure we have a well rounded array of quality plug-ins.
Waves? They're a little expensive, but are they really worth the money when compared to other packages out there? It would be the Gold Bundle most likely. Anyway, looking for some suggestions. Thanks! |

Re: Plug-in advice needed
What are you intending to do with your HD system? Sound tracks? Pop music? Classical?

Re: Plug-in advice needed
I have the Waves Gold bundle, and it was a great investment IMHO. I use these plugs on every session and mix.
I would also recommend Sound Toys Echoboy.

Re: Plug-in advice needed
Waves is good for both sound and efficient use of the HD DSPs. I started with Gold and eventually upgraded to Diamond. In addition to the capabilities of Gold, Diamond has TransX, H-Comp, and GTR3 all of which have become indespensible.
Buy Waves from [email protected] for the best prices and watch out for discounts for NARAS membership, $100/yr and worth it for the discounts alone.

Re: Plug-in advice needed
For heavy stuff, you should definetely demo Waves SSL. Also take a look at Drawmer Dynamics and Massey L2007. And you can never go wrong with Sonnox EQ and Dynamics.
But what is more important is your preamps and mics. I presume you already have a nice selection of mics, but what preamps are you using? You should have something that has massive dynamic range for the drum kit, but also something that has built-in analog compressor for the rest of the band. Slight compression on the way in makes it easier to mix. Most plugin companies offer time-limited demos; good luck.

Re: Plug-in advice needed
There's an M 80 in the rack, a Meek, and an Avalon.
I was not responsible for choosing what is already there. |
