Default Hard Drive search times too slow?

I am running PTMP 7.4 using a WD My Book 320GB FW400 drive.

The problem:
I'm getting a "static/white noise" sound on random tracks, at random times. I am guessing this is the hard drive not finding the file fast enough. I defragged the drive. No luck. My interface's (FW400) cable and Hard Drive FW Cable are on seperate cards so no FW Bus lag and I still can't alleviate the issue. Even setting the HW Buffer size higher, or the Cache to maximum doesnt help.

My computer is not old. Its new. Its ridiculously fast. What gives? Any Suggestions? Smaller hard drive partitions may be my answer?? Maybe an internal drive would be faster?

Thanks.

What happens if you run a session from your other internal drive? I would start there, and also try opening a session that has the problem, but hold the SHIFT key while it opens. That will disable all plugins(a handy way to see if a plugin is causing the noise). Most IK plugins will burst noise when they are in demo mode. Is it possible you lost an authorization due to some software update? (happened to me with the 8.0.3 update on LE).

I have been having the same problem. I was using an external eSATA drive for audio. I went to an internal drive and it seems like it went away. I have to say I never noticed this before I went to 8.0.3.

100% positive its my hard drive. Not a plug in issue seeing it happens on random tracks with different plug ins. I plan on reformatting my extra internal drive for audio. Any suggestions on partition size?

BTW, I am running 7.4cs10 and I am getting the issue. I don't think it's a PT version glitch.

One thing to consider, we are both using the Profire 2626.
I just got this for Christmas and was using the delta 1010lt Prior to that
so I wouldn't rule out that it's a m-audio driver issue.

I sent digi a support email on this and all they thought was it was a clock issue
because i had my adats attatched.

Just wondering if you fixed your problem yet.
I believe I may have an answer.

I was recording to a WD Caviar black 1tb 7200rpm Internal drive that was in my Thermaltake eSATA external whatcha macallit.

The controller is a jmicron pcie to esata controller. When i coppied the sessions over to another internal drive I had no problem

also I found this today.
