Anyone using a free web hosting service and liking it?

Re: OT - Web Hosting
You get what you pay for.
The frustration isn't worth it. I went with someone cheap, and regretted it. I wasted so much time. I'm now with 1 & 1 . excellent. never a problem. tip: use someone else for name registration. If you have a dispute with your web host you don't want to find you're stuck with them because they're also your web site name registration thingy. |

Re: OT - Web Hosting
well, most free places come with ads and what not... Best I have found to date is: A2 Web Hosting. These guys hands down are the best IMO for the price and the service. I have never experienced down time with these guys for the past 3 yrs. running strong. very good thing to look for when you are looking into a hosting company. they give you a lot of cool options. I think I pay something like $30 for their pro hosting package also which is dirt cheap..

Re: OT - Web Hosting
I have a 1&1.com "managed server" -- for the most part, reliability is good (not exceptional). there have been a couple router failures in the past 4 months.
1000 gigs a month bandwidth and a 40gig drive. It's basically a dedicated server, without root access. there's VERY LITTLE that you can't do with this for $79/mo for 5 years before this, I was paying $450/month for a dedicated server from RackSpace -- the leader in the market --and reliability was literally 100% over 5 years. Not a moment of down time. As Karel said, "you get what you pay for." -- in my case, I'll give up 10 minutes/month of connectivity failures to save $300/month 1and1 also has shared server space... for a lot less $ 1and1's user interface is very good. Insulates you from linux command line and htconfig files. You can't really go wrong with them. I have an affiliate link for times like this...
